The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has made a decision regarding the upcoming fight between Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs), the WBC, WBA, and WBO welterweight (up to 66,68 kg) champion, and Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs), the WBA super welterweight (up to 69,85 kg) champion. In addition to Madrimov's WBA title, the "interim" WBO title will also be on the line.
The fight is scheduled for August 3rd in Los Angeles, with an announcement expected on April 24th. The preliminary undercard for the event is also known.
The event will be organized by Turki Al-Sheikh and Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing, marking Turki's debut event in the USA.
Currently, Sebastian Fundora holds the full WBO title, but due to a nose injury sustained in a fight against Tim Tszyu, he cannot box until at least September.
The WBO will also mandate Fundora to face the winner of the Madrimov-Crawford bout. If Fundora is unable to meet this requirement, he will lose the WBO title, and either Crawford or Madrimov will become the full champion of the organization.
