Paco Valcarcel, the President of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), has shared details about discussions with Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) regarding moving up from the welterweight division (up to 147 lbs) to super welterweight (up to 69,85 kg).
In a comment to Fight Hype, Valcarcel mentioned that the conversation revolved around utilizing Crawford's "super champion" status. This unique position allows him, upon changing divisions, to immediately fight for the WBO title.
Currently, the WBO super welterweight belt is held by Australian Tim Tszyu (24-0, 17 KOs). Tszyu's next fight is scheduled for March 30th, against Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs). Crawford has not fought since the summer of 2023, making history as the first boxer to become a two-time undisputed champion in four major titles after defeating Errol Spence.
