Crawford Could Become the Greatest Boxer in History, Says Ortiz — Under One Condition

Interim WBC super welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz has said he would consider two-time undisputed champion Terence Crawford the greatest boxer of all time — if the American defeats Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in their upcoming fight.

"I don’t think he’ll do it, but if he beats Canelo, he’ll be my number one fighter of all time.

I respect Crawford and everything he does, but he’s just moved up from welterweight, so I’ll treat him as a welterweight. He’s jumping up three weight classes to face someone who was the number one fighter in all of boxing. That jump would be tough even if it was just a top-10 fighter. Canelo has the size and strength advantage.

I really think Crawford surpasses him in ring IQ. I just think the weight difference will be the deciding factor. Crawford has bitten off a bit more than he can chew. I’m not saying he can’t do it, I just pick Canelo to win — but if he does it, he’ll be my number one fighter of all time," Ortiz said.

The bout between Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) and Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) will take place on September 13 in Las Vegas. The first undercard matchups have already been announced.
