Contender for Winner of Haney-Garcia Fight Approved

World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman, in a statement to Pro Boxing Fans, confirmed that the fight between WBC lightweight (up to 63,5 kg) champion Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) will be for the WBC belt.

The issue with the title of this fight arose because Devin Haney had already been assigned a contender – Spaniard Sandor Martin (42-3, 15 KOs). However, Sulaiman assured that the WBC found a way to resolve the potential conflict – the winner of the Haney-Garcia match will be obligated to face Martin in their next fight.

The Haney vs. Garcia fight is scheduled for April 20 in Las Vegas. Martin last fought in December 2023, knocking out Mohammed El Marcouchi (29-4, 12 KOs) in the third round.
