The coach of Britain's Jack Catterall (29-1, 13 KOs), Jamie Moore, commented on his protégé's victory in the rematch with former undisputed junior welterweight champion (up to 63.5 kg) Josh Taylor (19-2, 13 KOs).
"I always talk about Jack as a hybrid boxer. He needs to adapt and be able to do a bit of everything. We expected Josh to try and pressure him, but he got too carried away, which possibly led to early exhaustion, allowing Josh to seize the initiative in the second half of the fight.
Catterall is a phenomenal fighter, and training him is a dream. He is obsessed with boxing. He learned everything on his own, and my job is to utilize his skills. I can train people and refine them. I didn’t have to do that with Jack. All I needed to do was take his skills and say, 'In these moments, you need to do this.'
It’s like I guide him through it rather than telling him what to do. He’s a phenomenal fighter. I’m not going to take credit for his achievements," said Moore.
On the night of May 26, Jack Catterall defeated Josh Taylor by unanimous decision. In the first fight, which took place in February 2022, Josh won by split decision, defending his status as the undisputed world champion for the first and only time. He subsequently lost 3 of his 4 titles, with the last WBO belt being lost in a bout against Teofimo Lopez.
