The number one contender in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight division (up to 66.7 kg), Karen Chukhadzhian (24-2, 13 KOs), shared his thoughts on IBF titleholder Jaron Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs).
- How would you rate Ennis' performance against Avanesyan?
- A quite expected victory for Ennis. He outboxed his opponent in his own style; I liked the fight.
- If he moves up to the next weight class to fight Crawford, does that mean you'll be named the champion or will there be a fight against the next contender?
- There will be a fight. Because I’m the number one contender, not the interim champion.
- Will negotiating with Hearn for a rematch be easier than it was previously with another promoter?
- I’m not sure. But probably easier because last time I didn’t have the contender status.
- How can you defeat Ennis?
- With God’s help (laughs).
Actually, we are re-watching his fights, looking for weaknesses that we can exploit. We've been doing this since the first fight.
Jaron and Karen faced each other in January 2023, where Ennis won by unanimous decision. Recall that on the night of July 14, Jaron Ennis defeated David Avanesyan (30-5-1, 18 KOs) after Avanesyan's corner decided to stop the fight (RTD 5). David was knocked down in the fifth round.
