Chisora on Title Fight with Dubois: "I’ll Sell Out Wembley"

British heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) has assured that his next fight — a potential title clash with IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) — will be the final bout of his career, no matter the outcome.

Chisora, now 41 years old, revealed that not only personal reasons but also pressure from his wife and the British Boxing Board of Control have influenced his decision to retire.

Listen, by the end of this year I’ll be done. I’m not going to lie to you. I’m retiring. Nothing will change that — this will be my last fight. Even if I become world champion, I’ll walk away. You don’t understand — it’s not even up to me. My wife said, ‘If you have another fight after this, I’ll leave you.’

So I said, ‘Alright, fine.’ She said, ‘One more and you’re done.’ You can’t play the ‘one more’ game. That’s how it gets you — and that’s when problems start. Even the British Boxing Board told me: ‘One more and we’ll ban you.’ So that’s it.

This is the last dance. After this — nothing. When I leave the ring, it’s over. We’ll see what happens, but I want this chance because the IBF made me mandatory challenger. I want it badly. I want to fight Daniel. It’s a good story because he’s trained by my former coach. It’s a very interesting fight, and I just want that opportunity.

For the first time in my career, I’m a mandatory challenger for a world title. Can you believe that? I told myself I only have a few fights left, so I’ll train hard, dedicate myself, and entertain the fans.

Yes, I’ll wait for the Dubois fight. I’m in no rush. I’ll try to call Frank Warren this weekend and see what happens, but I want this title fight. I can assure you — the fight with Daniel will happen at Wembley. I’ll sell out Wembley. I’m already working on the ring walk, every detail. I’m not training yet, but I’m planning the show. My ideal scenario is a fight on Bank Holiday Sunday — people come with their wives and kids, enjoy the show, and go home. Ben Shalom once organized a Sunday fight night — it was a blockbuster.

It was great. But I don’t know the exact date. That’s not up to me,” Chisora said.
