Chisora Criticizes Wilder's Trainer: "Took a Lion and Turned Him Into a Cat"

British boxer Derek Chisora (35-13, 23 KOs) has expressed his dissatisfaction with the work of Malik Scott as the trainer for former champion Deontay Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs).

"Wilder teamed up with Malik Scott, who took a lion and turned him into a cat. I'm disappointed. I even messaged Deontay Wilder and said, 'You need to get rid of Malik. He’s crazy. If he’s not hungry enough to teach you to be a beast, what's the point?'

The fight Deontay lost to Joseph Parker – he shouldn’t have lost that. Same with the fight against Zhang – he shouldn’t have lost that either. You give Scott a big role, and he gives you nothing in return. You’re not even throwing your right hand anymore. I'm not picking on Malik. I’m just upset because he let us down as a community. He took one of our best athletes and turned him into a softie.

I love Malik. But if Wilder comes to you, and you turn him into something gentle... That’s why I’m upset," Chisora said.

Deontay Wilder has lost four of his last five fights. Malik Scott, once Wilder’s opponent, eventually became his trainer.
