Spencer Brown, the manager of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs), discussed potential changes in Fury's corner ahead of the rematch against WBA, WBC, and WBO titleholder Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs).
"There will be changes, but not in leadership or his team. There will be some other things he will focus on during training.
Considering how close the last fight was, the result could have gone either way. Some will say Usyk was three rounds ahead, some will not, that's your opinion – that's why we love boxing," Brown said.
Recently, Tyson's uncle and former trainer, Peter Fury, who prepared him for his triumphant bout against Wladimir Klitschko, expressed his dissatisfaction with the ex-champion's team's performance.
"I truly believe that instructions should come from one person. And that can be anyone. If his father is training him, let his father give the instructions. If it's a guy from America, let him be the only one giving directions. But when three or four people are talking simultaneously, how can you listen to that?
I don't think he heard anything from that. When you're tired in the later rounds of a fight, you know you're losing, and four people are talking at once – I don't think that helps. To me, it didn't look professional. Maybe he needed just one voice giving him instructions. But instead, he had three or four people giving completely different instructions at the same time," Peter said on the podcast Froch on Fighting.
On May 18, the fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship took place between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, with the Ukrainian winning by split decision. The rematch is scheduled for December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
