Catterall: «I’m Preparing for the Best Version of Taylor»

Today, May 25, in Leeds, UK, a junior welterweight bout (up to 63.5 kg) between Jack Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) and Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) will take place. Ahead of the fight, Catterall shared his expectations.

«I have to be myself. I don’t fight with emotions. I box the way I box. I box with my mind and my head. Listen, if I hurt him and see an opportunity to finish him – I’ll do it. But this will be a Catterall victory. I don’t care how I win.

My sole focus is on myself. It’s selfish, but I’ve improved myself as a fighter and spent a lot of time and effort on it. We understand that Taylor’s team has changed and he’s had a lot of injuries. But I’m not taking my eyes off him, I’m preparing for his best version. That’s exactly what I expect, so when I win – there will be no questions,» said Catterall.

In their first bout, Taylor defeated Catterall by split decision. This was Josh’s first and only defense of his undisputed world champion status – he subsequently lost 3 of the 4 titles, and the last remaining WBO belt he lost to Teofimo Lopez.
