Fight Background
Adames has achieved what he has been striving for in recent years – a championship status. However, Carlos wanted to accomplish this in a high-profile showdown against Charlo, but the fight didn’t materialize, and the Dominican was elevated from “interim” to full champion status.
The first defense could have been more notable. Adames expressed his readiness to fight Kazakhstan's Zhanibek Alimkhanuly, the IBF and WBO champion. The boxers engaged in a loud dispute on Twitter, but no agreement was reached, and they ended up with different opponents.
Gausha is a versatile fighter. He can box cautiously as a counterpuncher and also perform well in exchanges. Terrell was the first to knock down Tim Tszyu, catching him with a straight right. However, he couldn’t capitalize on this advantage – the Australian regrouped and comfortably outboxed him to a decision win.
All three of Gausha's losses have come against top-level opponents. He has lost to Erislandy Lara, Erickson Lubin (though a conditional top, still a high-level boxer), and Tim Tszyu. The only relatively positive result for Terrell in a fight against a top-level boxer was a draw against Austin Trout.
Adames is on the rise. He seeks high-profile fights and can achieve them right now. Therefore, he must do everything to convincingly pass Gausha and move on to bigger names and more attractive purses.
