Samson Lewkowicz, the promoter of Mexican-American fighter Ramon Cardenas (26–2, 14 KOs), shared details about his boxer’s future following the bout against undisputed super bantamweight world champion Naoya Inoue (30–0, 27 KOs).
“Mr. Honda [Inoue’s co-promoter] already called me — they want to see Ramon in Japan.
He didn’t win, but he won the hearts of boxing fans.
He celebrated Cinco de Mayo not in New York or Saudi Arabia — but in Las Vegas, where it belongs.”
Lewkowicz added that a fight in Japan will likely happen next year, as Cardenas needs time to recover.
“He needs a long rest after this one. Maybe six months. He’ll be back in the ring at the end of the year or early next year — and we’ll have a great fight.”
The promoter also offered his view on Inoue’s condition following the war in Vegas:
“Inoue took some heavy shots, so I don’t think he’ll fight again this year. I doubt he’ll be in the ring by September — that’s just my personal opinion.”
As a reminder, on May 5, Naoya Inoue stopped Ramon Cardenas via TKO in Round 8. Cardenas knocked Inoue down in the second round — only the second knockdown of the Japanese champion’s career.
