Canelo Slams Benavidez: "He Thinks He's Superman"

Unified super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) has fired back at interim WBC light heavyweight titleholder David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs), criticizing his behavior and dismissing his claims of dominance.

The Mexican superstar accused Benavidez of acting like he’s invincible — despite, in Canelo's view, having achieved nothing of significance in the sport.

“I don’t even know how to respond to that question, but from the way he talks, it seems like he thinks he’s Superman.

He’s extremely disrespectful — not just to me, but to everyone. And he hasn’t accomplished anything. He’s not even a champion.

On top of that, he’s not even in my weight division. There are a lot of things that simply don’t make sense.

At this point in my career, I can do whatever I want.

You can’t take anything away from my career or my legacy.

If you look at my resume, I’ve fought everyone. I’m completely satisfied with what I’ve done,” Canelo told Fighthype.

On February 1, David Benavidez scored a unanimous decision victory over David Morrell.

Canelo Álvarez is set to return to the ring on May 3, when he will face William Scull in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the undisputed super middleweight championship.
