Canelo Reveals When He Plans to Retire

Mexican superstar and unified WBC, WBA, and WBO super middleweight champion Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez has opened up about when he envisions stepping away from boxing. The 35-year-old, widely regarded as one of the sport’s modern greats, says the finish line is in sight.

I’ve fought everybody. I’ve fought the best. I’ve won titles in multiple weight classes. I was the pound-for-pound king, Fighter of the Year. Everything.

If we’re talking about money, it’s never enough. But it’s not just about the money. It’s about enjoying it. I still enjoy boxing. That’s why I’m still here.

I’ll keep doing my thing, but when I’m 37 or 38, it’ll be time to retire,” Canelo said.

Canelo’s next fight is set for May 3, when he’ll face unbeaten contender William Scull in a bout for the undisputed super middleweight championship.
