Canelo Responds to Claims He's "Avoiding" Benavidez

The undisputed super middleweight champion Mexican Saul Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) responded to accusations that he's avoiding a clash against David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs).

"It's always the same. Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout, Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, Gennady Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs, Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders. In the end, I've beaten almost all of them. If I beat Benavidez, they'll say, 'Oh, why don't you meet this other guy?' Look at my record, I've done everything in boxing. I've done it all," Alvarez declared.

Saul has announced his next opponent – Mexican Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs). The fight is scheduled for May 4 in Las Vegas. The last time Alvarez fought a fellow Mexican was in 2017, defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by decision.
