"There Is Something to Lose." Canelo on Fight Against Crawford

It seems we shouldn't expect a match between the undisputed super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) and the WBC, WBA, and WBO welterweight champion (up to 66.67 kg) Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs). Canelo explained why such a fight is not of interest to him.

"Yes, I could make a lot of money in such a fight, but they will criticize me anyway. They like it. They criticized me because I fought Jermell, who gained weight, who is bigger than me, because I'm a small fighter for that division. He gained weight, but they criticized me.

So now, if you think about bringing Crawford up from welterweight... Super middleweight, I have something to lose, but I won't gain anything from it because if I win, they'll say, 'Oh, he was too small, and that's it," said Álvarez.

Canelo previously announced that his next fight would take place on May 4th and that the next opponent would not be a Mexican. Jermall Charlo is named as the most likely opponent.
