Canelo and Munguia Have a Rematch Clause in Contract

The co-promoter of the super middleweight contender Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs), Fernando Beltran, shared that the contract for his client's fight against the undisputed super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) includes a rematch clause.

"I gave my word to Eddy Reynoso and told him I would not complicate the negotiations. I was a gentleman. We gave each other our word, and here we are. Both Munguia and Golden Boy trusted me during the negotiations. As soon as Eddy and I talked, the fight was easy to arrange – it's easy dealing with two Mexicans. The rematch is the only contract clause that will be available only if Jaime wins or the fight ends in a draw.

We didn't speak otherwise, unlike different people. We respected Canelo. That's why we are now facing him. Jaime has all the power to step into the ring with Canelo.

This will be a sensational fight, and they will show the best of the best. The fight will undoubtedly divide the Mexican fan base because many love Canelo. But he also has haters, and these haters probably love us," stated Beltran.

The fight is scheduled for May 4th in Las Vegas and will be Alvarez's first against a Mexican opponent since 2017.
