Former world champion Paul Malignaggi comments that he doesn't see the same motivation that once drove the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. However, he is confident that the fight against Munguia will be interesting.
"I see a fighter who is satisfied with his career, satisfied with the money he has made, and the success he has achieved.
A fighter who is no longer as hungry as before and doesn’t show the ferocity that he once displayed at a certain point in his career. You can see some of these elements fading away, and the desire to push forward disappearing. But he remains an experienced veteran.
He knows how to conduct and win fights at a high level. A guy like Munguia, who is active, hungry, and weak in defense, can make this fight interesting because he brings activity into the ring. He throws combinations in bunches. These are things that Canelo doesn’t always find pleasant to deal with and will have to manage," said Malignaggi.
Alvarez will fight Munguia on May 4th in Las Vegas. This will be Saul's first fight against a Mexican opponent since 2017.
