The undisputed super middleweight (up to 76,2 kg) world champion Mexican Saúl Álvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) shared why he chose Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) over David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) as his opponent.
"I am in a position that I earned with my balls, effort, fights. If you look at my career – I've fought many Hall of Famers, many undefeated fighters, champions. For 13 years, I only fought for world championship belts.
I'm in a position where I can do whatever I want. But still, I can't please them," Álvarez told LA Times.
Canelo is set to face Munguia on May 4th in the USA. This will be Álvarez's first fight against a Mexican opponent since 2017. David Benavidez has been called the most desired opponent for Canelo.
