Canelo has officially agreed to a fight with Ryder

The reigning super middleweight world champion, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs), has officially accepted a bout against John Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs), the mandatory contender for the WBO belt.

The boxing event is scheduled for May 6 and will take place at the Akron stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Last year on September 18, Alvarez won against Gennady Golovkin by unanimous decision, successfully defending his titles. Ryder, who won his last fight against Zach Parker to become the "interim" WBO super middleweight champion, will face Alvarez.

After the match, Alvarez aims to have a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, the WBA light heavyweight titleholder. The second fight between Alvarez and the Russian is planned for September. It's worth noting that Alvarez lost to Bivola in May 2022, his second defeat in his career, in a fight for the world champion title in light heavyweight.
