On September 13, a historic showdown for the undisputed Super Middleweight Championship will take place in Las Vegas, USA, as Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) faces Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs). At the official press conference, several unique features of the event were announced.
First, the winner will receive the most expensive Ring Magazine belt ever created. The award is valued at $188,000.
Second, a knockout bonus will be introduced. The fighter who scores a stoppage victory will receive an additional purse. The exact amount has not been disclosed, but Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, explained that this is part of his initiative to eliminate “Tom and Jerry-style fights,” as he calls bouts where one fighter simply runs from the other.
“First of all, we won’t have those anymore. Second, we’re introducing a knockout bonus for this fight and for future ones,” Turki said at the press conference.
As previously announced, the fight will take place at Allegiant Stadium, which holds over 65,000 spectators. It will be the first combat sports event held at the venue since it opened in 2020.
