IBF super middleweight champion William Scull (23-0, 9 KOs) has revealed that his team is in negotiations with the representatives of WBA, WBC, and WBO titleholder in the same division, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs).
“William Scull confirmed on the Cubanos Punos program that his team is in talks with Canelo’s team regarding a potential unification bout in May of next year in Las Vegas.
Scull added that an official meeting between both teams will take place on January 10 to finalize all the details. In addition, the current IBF super middleweight champion clarified that there was a possibility of facing Edgar Berlanga or Christian Mbilli, but that option was declined for financial reasons,” tweeted journalist Carlos Linares.
In October, William Scull defeated Vladimir Shishkin by unanimous decision to claim the vacant IBF title that had previously belonged to Álvarez. In September, Canelo beat Edgar Berlanga by unanimous decision.
