Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, the absolute world champion in super middleweight, has officially announced that his next fight will take place on May 6th in Mexico.
The bout will be held in Alvarez's home state of Jalisco, with the event serving as a celebration for the 200th anniversary of the state's independence.
The fight is set to take place at either Estadio Akron or Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara, with John Ryder, a 34-year-old British boxer and mandatory contender for the WBO belt, being one of the potential opponents. This fight will be an interim bout for Alvarez, who has his sights set on a rematch with WBA light heavyweight title holder Dmytro Bivol.
In September of last year, Alvarez successfully defended his titles by defeating Gennady Golovkin via unanimous decision, with all judges scoring the fight in Canelo's favor (116-112, 115-113, 115-113).
