On May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, The Ring’s third Fatal Fury event featured a historic bout for the undisputed super middleweight championship (76.2 kg / 168 lbs). Reigning WBA, WBC, and WBO champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) faced off against undefeated IBF titleholder William Scull of Cuba (23-1, 9 KOs).
Canelo secured a unanimous decision win with scorecards reading:
115-113, 116-112, 119-109, becoming a two-time undisputed champion in the 168-lb division. (UD 12)
Scull entered the bout riding a five-fight win streak, all via decision. For Canelo, it was his first bout against a Cuban opponent since edging Erislandy Lara by decision back in 2014.
