"Broke the Eardrum": Ryan Recalls Fight Against Haney

First super lightweight contender American Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) recalled his encounters with the current WBC champion of his category, Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), in the amateurs.

"We were at the Junior Olympics, we were about 14-15 years old. I jumped on him right away, hitting him, and he was just staggering around the center of the ring. Everyone was going crazy. One of his people came up to my dad and said, 'Devin thinks Ryan broke his eardrum because he can't hear anything at all.' They wanted to stop the fight. This is one example of what I did to him; he never knocked me out. They took a point from him for hitting me in the back of the head, and he still won. That means he had to be killing me for eight rounds. Probably, I was robbed in that fight, but it's okay. I don't care," said Garcia in a comment for DAZN.

The overall score of Haney vs. Garcia confrontations is 3:3. They fought six times in the amateurs, and on April 20th in New York, they will have their first professional fight.
