British Trainer on Who Can Beat Usyk: “He Can Match Him in Everything”

Andy Lee, trainer of WBO interim heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, is confident that his fighter has what it takes to defeat two-time undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk.

“Parker is the best heavyweight in the world—give him a chance to prove it. He is the best, no doubt.

We want Usyk because Joe will beat him. Joe is faster, skilled enough, and we have power. He is younger and fresher—he can match Usyk in everything. Believe me. Maybe you don’t believe me now, but trust me on this.

Joe wanted the biggest challenge. Now it’s easy to talk after the result, but back then, I was reading all the pre-fight comments, and I started doubting my decision. Everyone said it was madness to take the fight against Bakole. But in the end, everything worked out perfectly.

Give us a title fight—Joe needs a shot at the belt.

He trained for eight weeks, had plenty of sparring, spent three weeks in Saudi Arabia, ate the best food, and had the perfect preparation—while poor Martin had to fly across the world just 24 hours before the fight. Yes, we had all the advantages, but it doesn’t matter—that knockout shot would have taken out anybody.”

Meanwhile, Usyk has stated that he wants Daniel Dubois for his next fight. If that bout happens, it will be for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
