Mairis Briedis: “Usyk Would Destroy Crawford”

Mairis Briedis / LETA

Former world champion Mairis Briedis shared his thoughts on Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed Heavyweight champion.

“I think people don’t really understand how great Usyk is. In what sense? Tyson — knocked down, knockouts, losses. Muhammad Ali — the same. Usyk has gone his whole career without a defeat. He won everything in the amateurs. He won everything in the pros. He has basically done what no one else has ever done.

I don’t understand why he’s not one of the top fighters in the P4P rankings right now. Because if you even match him with Crawford right now, he destroys Terence. He beats him — because he’s bigger, and he has the same level of experience as Crawford, he just physically overwhelms him.

I don’t understand how you can place guys from the smaller weight classes higher. You’re comparing the best of the best: there’s some 60-kilo boxer at the top, while a 100-kilo boxer is below him.

By every measure, Usyk is now the most accomplished and the coolest boxer. I think not only of the 21st century, but even before that,” Briedis said.

In July, Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) knocked out Daniel Dubois in the fifth round to regain the title of undisputed Heavyweight champion.
