Briedis to Fight in the Usyk-Fury Undercard

Former cruiserweight world champion (up to 90.7 kg) Mairis Briedis (28-2, 20 KOs) will face former heavyweight champion Jai Opetaia (24-0, 19 KOs) on May 18.

The bout will take place on the undercard of the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia.

"We are very excited to be part of such a fantastic fight night with Usyk against Fury, which many will watch. Opetaia and Briedis have already met. We know what we're getting. Look at their first fight.

Briedis couldn't handle him in the first half; he found himself on the canvas for the first time in his professional career. In the second half, he comes back. Hits him and breaks almost every bone in his body. It's a crazy fight," said Briedis' promoter Kalle Sauerland.

This will be a rematch. In their first encounter, Opetaia defeated Briedis by decision, boxing with a broken jaw. The fight was initially scheduled for February 17, but due to an injury to Fury, the event was moved to May 18, and the Briedis vs. Opetaia confrontation was also rescheduled.
