WBO Welterweight champion Brian Norman has shared his thoughts on his upcoming fight against Devin Haney.
“He’s the opponent I dreamed of. His strengths are his footwork and jab. But his weakness is Brian Norman Jr. The fact that I stay true to myself, that I give everything to my work every day, that I wake up every morning with the same energy and discipline.
You can’t judge a man based on one fight. Three fights ago, people were saying Haney could beat Gervonta Davis. Then after the next fight with Ryan Garcia, they were saying: ‘He should retire, he’ll never be the same again.’
When everything was against me — that’s when I started changing. That’s when I started knocking people out, and that’s why you even know who I am. I think Devin is also in a fighting mood right now.
I’m sure Devin Haney is mentally prepared — he’s doing everything he needs to do. He sees how people are underestimating him, but I’m not going to judge him based on one fight. Many people try to devalue Devin Haney the same way they tried to devalue Pacquiao. But people don’t understand that they criticize what they themselves can’t do. Not even what they can’t — what they won’t do. At least these fighters try, and most people don’t even make an attempt — that’s the problem.
Look at Crawford and Canelo. People said Crawford couldn’t win. Why? Because he was too small, too old — everything was against him. But why think like that? They’re both human beings. Canelo is human too. Many believe something is impossible until someone proves otherwise,” Norman said.
The fight between Brian Norman (28-0, 22 KOs) and Devin Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) will take place on November 22 at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
