Bradley: "Tszyu Sustained a Life-Threatening Injury"

Former two-division world champion Timothy Bradley, in a ProBox TV broadcast, commented on the fight between former champion Tim Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) and WBC and WBO super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs). The expert believes Tszyu's corner should have stopped the fight.

"The cut was in a spot that did not pose a life-threatening risk. Fights are usually stopped when the cut is right above the eye. But this wound was on the crown of the head. Tszyu sustained a life-threatening injury, but the doctor felt that the cut would not get worse because of its location. The doctor constantly monitored Tim. He asked him, 'Can you see?'. And guess what Tszyu replied. 'Yes, I can see.' And so it went for the entire fight. At that point, the doctor loses control over the situation. When a boxer says he can see, his fate is no longer in the doctor's hands. Those who didn't know the rules are to blame – namely, Tszyu's corner. They had no idea what they were doing. Yes, it was a bit of pride, but largely just not knowing what to do. I would have stopped the fight after the 3rd round. And if not then, then in the 4th or 5th. If I were training Tim and thought that maybe we have a chance to knock this guy out, I would say, 'Give me two more hard rounds.' Take those two rounds, and then stop the fight, because you need to protect your boxer," Bradley said.

On the night of March 31st, during the fight between Tim Tszyu and Sebastian Fundora, by the second round both boxers were bleeding: Sebastian had blood coming from his nose and mouth, while Tim sustained a cut from bumping into his opponent's elbow.

The fight lasted all 12 rounds and ended with Fundora winning by split decision.
