In an interview with FightHub TV, former champion and boxing commentator Tim Bradley weighed in on the aspirations of IBF "interim" welterweight champion Jaron Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) to challenge the holder of the WBA, WBC, and WBO belts, Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs), for the title of undisputed champion.
"Accept that in boxing, there's more business than sport. A fighter's task is to maximize their status for profit. What should Ennis do? Capitalize on what he has. Improve his status through activity. The guy is already starting to be forgotten – that's how long he hasn't been in the ring. Why is he chasing Crawford?
First, he needs to work on his status, his name, his recognition. But he wants to skip several steps and jump straight to the top. Man, Crawford is on another level. Terence is in a different 'weight class' when we talk about purses. Crawford is the penthouse. And this kid Ennis, he's just a guy getting started," Bradley stated.
Ennis last fought in July of the previous year against Roiman Villa (26-2, 24 KOs), winning by unanimous decision.
