Bradley Explains Haney's Defeat

Former world champion Tim Bradley commented on the fight between WBC champion at super lightweight (up to 63,5 kg) Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) and Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs).

"I've always thought Haney's chin was suspect, but after he showed improvement in defense and offense, I thought, 'This guy is special. He's moving in the right direction.' I don't know if Haney had a psychological lapse. I think he hinted at that in an interview when he said he lost focus. You can't do that at the highest level. I thought he had mastered great concentration. But I didn't see it.

I saw it in Devin's fight against Regis Prograis. I saw a bit of it in the fight with Lomachenko. I thought he was starting to develop concentration. In the fight with Garcia, Haney lacked focus. This could have played a significant role in him getting shaken in the first round, and he went down.

When you go down, you want to respond immediately, trying to be a puncher. Haney started moving forward, and that was the wrong game plan. He wasn't ready for Ryan's left hook," said Bradley.

On April 21, Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs). Despite the defeat, Devin remains the WBC champion, as Ryan did not make the weight limit and was not eligible for the title.
