Former world champion American Timothy Bradley has never seen a championship bout quite like the one between WBO lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Ukrainian Denys Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) and Mexican Emanuel Navarrete (38-2-1, 31 KOs).
"This was the sloppiest championship fight I've ever seen. This guy was just as awkward, if not more awkward, than Navarrete. Yet, Berinchyk turned out to be more technical.
Denys had the opportunity to correct things every time Emanuel attacked him. Navarrete had noticeable issues with his footwork, especially when retreating, and his opponent capitalized on that.
Berinchyk stayed close and smothered Navarrete. Massive respect to Berinchyk and his team. They executed this fight phenomenally. During the training camp, they mixed in all the styles that would cause problems for the opponent, even incorporating footwork. It was very effective," Bradley said.
Berinchyk defeated Navarrete by split decision and became a world champion for the first time in his career.
