Bogachuk Reflects on the Fight with Mendoza: "Is That Really Me? Wow..."

In an interview with vRINGe, the "interim" WBC super welterweight champion (up to 69.9 kg) Serhii Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs) commented on his fight against American Bryan Mendoza (22-4, 16 KOs).

- What did you feel in the 11th round when you caught that uppercut?

- It wasn't like I was "floating" or anything like that. It was just a "clean hit." I didn't feel it was a very strong blow. But it was accurate. I "ate" it, but didn't get lost.

In principle, it was fine. You could see from the footage that he rushed to finish me off, but I didn't panic; I stayed collected. And then I outperformed him. When a fighter takes a hit, when he's shaken, he behaves differently. That's when the survival instinct kicks in. The fighter then starts doing some not very clear things: clinching, hiding, lowering his head. That didn't happen to me – I understood everything, controlled everything.

- How do you rate Mendoza's punch? More powerful than Brandon Adams's?

- He has a normal punch. Maybe more powerful. The punch is strong. But I was prepared for that.

I think many noticed that in this fight my hands were high. I'm rewatching my fight and I'm amazed: "Is that really me? Wow..."

It's all about work. We really worked a lot on defense. And in this fight, my defense was on point. Regardless of what anyone says, I watch, analyze, compare with old fights, and see that our defense is indeed much better now.

On the night of March 31, Serhii Bohachuk met Bryan Mendoza in a fight for the "interim" WBC champion title. After twelve rounds, Bohachuk won by unanimous decision and claimed the title.

This was the first fight in Bogachuk's career that went the full twelve rounds.
