Bohachuk Confirms Next Fight

"Interim" WBC middleweight champion (up to 69.9 kg) Serhii Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs) explained what led to his victory over American Brian Mendosa (22-4, 16 KOs).

- We're speaking with you as a champion, so everything worked out and you achieved a positive result. What was the strategy against Mendosa?

- The strategy was to pressure intelligently and avoid taking powerful punches from Brian, as he can deliver a powerful hit. Mendosa is a fighter who can wait and then find a moment to strike hard.

- What didn't go as planned?

- Everything we prepared and planned worked out.

- Did the opponent surprise you in any way?

- I wouldn't say so. We watched his fights before and he was the same in the ring.

- In the eighth round, the opponent hit you around the belt area, but you shook your head and smiled. What were you telling Mendosa and yourself at that moment?

- It wasn’t below the belt, but right on it. Not a painful punch, but rather an unpleasant one. I gestured to him: "A little off target, hit higher." I think he understood.

- You had almost double the hit count advantage (319-168), dominated in jabs (94-49), and power punches (225-119). What was the main factor that allowed you to confidently outbox your opponent?

- Discipline and hard work.

- Loeffler mentioned that your next fight is in July. Is that correct? Is the opponent known?

- Yes, that's correct, but the opponent is still being considered.

On March 30th, Serhii Bohachuk defeated Brian Mendosa by unanimous decision and became the WBC "interim" champion.
