The WBC "interim" light middleweight champion (up to 154 lbs), Serhii Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs), is confident that a fight against the current WBO and WBC champion in his category, Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs), will definitely happen. But later.
"I think the fight with Fundora will happen, but not this year. His team has slightly different plans, and I already have a serious title, so, I think, we will have a few defenses, promote our duel as much as possible, and then later on, they will match us. This is my opinion, considering what I see happening around. Immediately after the fight with Tszyu, Spence got into the ring with Fundora, I don’t understand why he did that. Maybe they are preparing a fight for him? Or maybe there will be a rematch with Tszyu, actually he is not up for me right now. And I’m not up for him, because, I repeat, I have a title, and now we will promote it, I need to have a few fights with guys ranked in the WBC. Boxing is primarily a business, the promoter will look at when this fight will be more interesting and when it's better to make it. Maybe we need to wait and make it subsequently, so it's on TV and the money is good," Bohachuk said in a comment to XSport.
On the night of March 31st, Bohachuk was initially supposed to meet Sebastian Fundora. However, the latter replaced Keith Thurman in the main event of the show and fought Tim Tszyu. Fundora won by decision and became the unified champion, while Bohachuk became the WBC "interim" champion after defeating Brian Mendoza.
