Ukrainian Super Welterweight Serhii Bohachuk reflected on the lessons he learned from his first encounter with Brandon Adams.
“In the first fight with him, I didn’t know about the later rounds and I thought my chin was made of iron. He taught me that my chin is not iron. I needed to move more. I needed to defend more. Now I’ve fixed that. I’ve become better. And I’m very happy, very glad to be part of this big show, to show many people that I’m different now.
Before the first fight with him, I had no experience of eight or ten rounds. I only had 17 fights and 17 knockouts. Every fight lasted a maximum of six or seven rounds. I didn’t know what the late rounds felt like. Now I’ve gone 12 rounds twice against Ortiz and Mendoza. Now I know how it is to fight deep into the rounds. I’m different now.
I was winning every round in the first fight, and then one punch changed the fight. That’s boxing. It’s tough. You can win every round, and then you get caught once — and that’s it. The first time I didn’t have the experience. I didn’t know. Now I know.
Now I’m working with Manny Robles. He taught me that you have to be ready from the first to the twelfth round. Every round you have to be prepared. This is boxing. You can win every round, and then one punch ends it. Like in the fight with Adams — just like that,” Bohachuk said.
The rematch between Serhii Bohachuk (26-2, 24 KOs) and Brandon Adams (25-4, 16 KOs) will take place on September 13 as part of the undercard for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford event in Las Vegas. Full details on all preliminary bouts can be found [here].
