The founder and head of Top Rank, Bob Arum, responded to the criticism from his client, WBO champion in the super lightweight division (up to 63.5 kg) Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs).
The American boxer is demanding that his promotional agreement be declared void, claiming that when he signed the contract, he was supposed to fight Jose Pedraza (29-6-1, 14 KOs), but was instead matched with Sandor Martin (42-3, 15 KOs).
"Teofimo sometimes acts like he’s not all there. I love the guy, but I can’t understand him; there’s no logic to what he’s doing. He first extended his contract with us for a fight with Jose Pedraza, which never happened. Then, when we arranged another fight with Sandor Martin, he signed that same extension. All of this is documented black and white. I think he showed his lawyer the first contract instead of the second. Working with Teofimo is like dealing with Alice in Wonderland," said Arum in an interview with Dan Rafael.
Teofimo Lopez last stepped into the ring in June, winning a unanimous decision against Steve Claggett (39-8-2, 27 KOs).
