The founder and head of Top Rank Promotions, Bob Arum, shared his thoughts on the possible return of former heavyweight world champion Wladimir Klitschko to professional boxing.
The promoter doubts that the Ukrainian can come back to the ring and immediately compete in a title fight:
“Remember when Foreman came back? He wasn’t 45 but rather more like 41, and he had already lost to Evander Holyfield. He’d been tested, and he knew what he could do.
But the idea that Klitschko would return now, at 48 years old, without any interim fights, seems unlikely. That’s just how it looks to me.
I’ve always been a big fan of both Klitschko brothers and certainly of the Ukrainian people. But I’m not sure.
It’s hard for me to believe that Klitschko could come back and jump straight into a world title fight without a series of tune-up bouts. That’s truly hard to imagine,” said Arum.
