WBO cruiserweight champion Chris Billam-Smith (20-1, 13 KOs) has confirmed that he is in negotiations for a November showdown with WBA titleholder Gilberto Ramírez (46-1, 30 KOs).
"We are in talks for this fight. At the moment, it's the only fight we're discussing. Obviously, Opetaia is set to fight Jack Massey. I’ve always said I’d be ready in November or December – we’re currently looking at November, but the exact location is still to be determined. We’re working on it.
It’s exciting – a unification fight against an opponent who’s only been beaten by Bivol. It’s a very tough challenge, and it would be an honor for me to fight for the title and become a unified champion," said Billam-Smith.
Chris Billam-Smith last stepped into the ring in June, in a rematch against Richard Riakporhe (17-1, 13 KOs), where he won by unanimous decision. Riakporhe handed Billam-Smith his only career loss in July 2019.
Gilberto Ramírez, meanwhile, secured a unanimous decision victory over Arsen Goulamirian (27-1, 19 KOs) in March, becoming the first Mexican cruiserweight champion in history.
