Bill Haney, father and trainer of reigning WBC junior welterweight champion (up to 63.5 kg) Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs), shared his thoughts on what should be done with his son’s former opponent, Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs), whose B sample also tested positive for doping.
«Obviously… There’s nothing you can do with this guy except remove him from the sport. It’s a terrible thing… It’s a terrible thing for the sport overall. It’s a terrible thing for boxing. You see me with my kids. I don’t know what to tell them. We, the Haneys, believe in fairness. We believe in hard work, and I feel devastated. Garcia tested positive and now mocks the sport – it’s just awful,» said Haney.
Garcia was the first to defeat Haney in the professional ranks. However, after the fight, both his A and B samples tested positive for banned substances.
