Bill Haney: "Everyone Wants the Rematch with Garcia Right Now"

Bill Haney, father and trainer of undefeated American boxer Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), revealed that he pushed for an immediate rematch with Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs), wanting to skip any interim fights.

According to Haney Sr., Garcia’s team delayed negotiations, claiming the rematch wasn’t a priority for fans—despite public demand for a second fight following their controversial first encounter.

"This is all bulls***. Everyone wants the rematch right now. I had to take control, put my signature on the agreement, and push to make this fight happen. Garcia’s camp said fans didn’t want this fight, but the truth is, everyone’s been waiting for it.

So, I did everything to make this rematch happen. This was never about lawsuits—it was about justice for the fans. We just hope that this time Ryan Garcia fights clean, in every sense of the word," Haney Sr. stated.

In April 2024, Garcia defeated Haney by decision, but later tested positive for ostarine in three separate drug tests. As a result, the bout was declared a no-contest, and Garcia was handed a one-year suspension. Haney initially sued Garcia but withdrew the lawsuit after signing a contract for the rematch, which is set for October 2025 in Saudi Arabia.

Before that, both fighters will step into the ring on May 2—Haney facing Jose Ramirez, while Garcia takes on Rolando Romero in an interim bout.
