Following his knockout victory over Padraig McCrory (18-1, 9 KOs), Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) has expressed a desire to face the undisputed super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saul Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs).
"I want this fight right now. We want Canelo. I'm 1000 percent confident he will agree to the fight. Look at Eddie Hearn – he will make this fight happen. Boxing needs this fight. The fans need a match-up between a Puerto Rican star and a Mexican star. It will be the biggest fight of the year," said Berlanga.
As a reminder, on the night of February 25th, Berlanga secured a knockout against McCrory in the 6th round, after which McCrory's team threw in the towel, officially ending the fight.
Recently, Saul announced plans to return to the ring on May 4th in Las Vegas, but the name of his next opponent remains a mystery.
