In the early hours of March 16, Edgar Berlanga made a statement comeback, scoring a first-round knockout over Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz in the USA. This fight marked Berlanga’s return after suffering his first career loss to Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez.
After the bout, Berlanga shared his wish list of opponents, and on his way back to the locker room, he reflected on a past conversation with Floyd Mayweather:
"I’ll do the same thing to Plant, the same to Munguía. I’ll do the same to Charlo. I’ve got dynamite in my hands.
And as Floyd Mayweather told me: ‘You have dynamite in your fists. Just let them fly. Nobody can stand up to that—nobody. You punch hard, and you're very smart. IQ,’" said Berlanga.
