The World Boxing Association (WBA) has declared a new official contender for their title in the super middleweight division (up to 168 lbs). Puerto Rican-American Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) has been named as the contender. The title is currently held by Mexican boxer Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs).
Additionally, it is noted that the winner of the potential fight between David Morrell and Radivoje Kalajdzic will receive the title of "regular" champion in the light heavyweight division (up to 175 lbs).
Consequently, the similar title in the super middleweight category, currently held by Morrell, will become vacant should David win.
Meanwhile, Alvarez has another opponent lined up – Jaime Munguia, with whom he will square off on May 4th in Las Vegas.
