Edgar Berlanga (21-0, KO) is stepping back into the ring on February 24th for a super middleweight bout (up to 76,2 kg) against Padraig McCrory (18-0, 9 KOs) in Orlando, Florida, USA. However, much of the conversation revolves around who his next opponent might be. Berlanga himself acknowledges the need to make a statement to gain traction ahead of a big fight, with his name often linked to potential matchups with the likes of Saúl Álvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) and Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs).
In an interview with BoxingScene, he shared his expectations for the upcoming match:
"The next week is my main focus right now, so to really grab his [Canelo's] attention, I need to shine like a star. Next week, I have to dazzle, literally make this guy [McCrory] look like he's not in my weight class, and really do my job so the world starts talking about this stuff. They'll say, 'Wow, he's back!'. Now they'll start mentioning his [Canelo's] name, now he has no opponent. Now he says, 'We can do this.' That's what's on my mind for the whole next week, to really perform well. That's why I'm so focused because I know something big is going to happen next week in a positive way, and I'm ready, I'm looking forward to it," said Berlanga.
Berlanga's previous fight was against Jason Quigley (20-3, 14 KOs) in New York, USA, where he secured a victory by unanimous decision.
