Berinchyk Spars with the Youth

On May 18th in San Diego, USA, Ukrainian lightweight (up to 61.2 kg) Denys Berinchyk (18-0, 9 KOs) will face the WBO champion at junior lightweight (up to 58.9 kg) Emanuel Navarrete (38-1-1, 31 KOs). The fight will determine the new holder of the WBO lightweight title.

In the lead-up to the fight, Berinchyk discussed his preparations.

Yegor Golub mentioned that this camp is much longer than previous ones—four months instead of two. Boxers often blame their poor performances on 'overtraining.' Aren't you worried about overtraining?

We started early, but initially, our training was light. Our camp was divided into three phases. The first phase was about building physical condition. Only after this did we start focusing on boxing,

Worried about overtraining? No, we are not afraid. The fight is set for May, right after I celebrate my 36th birthday. I see it as a good sign. It's my year—the Year of the Dragon. Everything will be precise!

Now we're at the final stage of the camp—sparring. How do you feel about your sparring partners? Are you satisfied with their level?

They are young. One is an American, 22 years old. The other is Mexican, 19 years old. We won't stop here. We'll be looking to add a couple more fighters next week.

Currently, I'm doing 6-8 rounds of sparring, plus additional training. Right now, we are working on power. More sparring partners will be added. Those we have are similar to Navarrete. They switch stances, punch hard, and box expansively. As they say, with a fighter's heart.

Everything is going well.
