WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk has revealed that he was in talks for a unification bout against WBC titleholder Shakur Stevenson, which was scheduled to take place on February 21 in Saudi Arabia.
– What are your plans if you successfully defend your belt against Keyshawn Davis – a title unification or a big-money fight?
– I already had both a unification fight and a high-profile matchup on the table. It was against Shakur Stevenson.
We agreed to fight on February 21 in Saudi Arabia, but he declined. The offer was made, it was good money, it was a unification bout, and it was against a top-level opponent – Berinchyk stated.
Berinchyk will now face Keyshawn Davis on February 14 in New York.
