The father and coach of WBC interim super middleweight champion (up to 76,2 kg) David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs), Jose Benavidez Sr., shared his thoughts on a potential fight against the WBC middleweight belt holder Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs).
"Honestly, I like the idea of a fight with Jermall Charlo, but David would stop him. I don't think it would be a fair or exciting fight. We want dangerous fights with a 50-50 chance. I don't see a fight with Charlo as a 50-50.
I don't think he deserves to fight David or Canelo. I would happily agree to David fighting Jermall right away. It's easy money. An easy fight. But we want to give fans tough, great fights. I don't think fans would be satisfied with this matchup.
Jermall is not on the same level as David or Canelo. I'm a big fan of his, but honestly, I don't think he's 100 percent ready," said Benavidez Sr.
Jermall is being mentioned as a possible opponent for Canelo. David Benavidez is set to face Alexander Gvozdyk next for the WBC interim light heavyweight title (up to 79,4 kg).
