Benavidez Senior: "Glad Canelo Doesn't Want to Fight David"

Jose Benavidez Senior, the father and coach of WBC "interim" super middleweight champion David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs), criticized the undisputed champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) for refusing to fight David.

"I consider Canelo the best in the super middleweight division. He's the king of this division. He's the face of boxing. I believe he is a dangerous fighter, and we want to fight only the best. We tried everything we could to make this fight happen, but he said he would not fight Mexicans. He doesn't want to fight David, so we need to move on.

I am very pleased with our achievements, and how far David has come, I am very proud of his accomplishments. Honestly, I am very happy to see that Canelo and his team don't want to fight David. It means we must be doing something right.

The most dangerous fighter, the most exciting fighter doesn't want to face David Benavidez. He knows, and you know, I know — everyone knows, Canelo's career is coming to an end. He's not the Canelo who used to break arms and knock people out.

He knows David can beat him and doesn't want to lose to him," said Benavidez Senior.
